  6. The user of this program, by the  action of using the program, agrees to 
  7. the license and warranty terms below.

  9. GFile is NOT public domain software, nor is it free. It is a
  10. commercial software product, distributed using the 'Shareware'
  11. concept. Under this concept, you are allowed to use GFile for
  12. a period of 30 days to determine if it is useful to you. After
  13. this initial trial period, if you wish to continue to use GFile,
  14. you must register it by sending $20 US (cash, check, or money order)
  15. to:

  20. Registrations are not transferable. Registration confers the right of an
  21. individual to use GFile revision 2.0 on any computer system.

  24. Please be sure to enclose your name and mailing address on a separate
  25. sheet. Do NOT count on the return address on the envelope being readable.

  27. Upon receipt of your registration, you will be sent a letter confirming
  28. your registration. You will also be sent letters informing you of future
  29. revisions/updates of GFile.

  31. Registration does not constitute ownership of GFile or any associated files.
  32.  
  33. No component of GFile may be modified, renamed, disassembled, or otherwise
  34. reverse-engineered, except as described in the program documentation.

  36. Limited Warranty

  39. Although all efforts are made to insure proper operation of this program,
  40. I cannot guarantee it will perform correctly on all systems under all
  41. possible configurations. Therefore, before using GFile (or any new program),
  42. back up your system completely and perform rigorous testing before relying
  43. on GFile for critical operations. The author is not responsible for any
  44. damage, loss, or problems caused directly or indirectly from the use of  
  45. GFile or any associated files. The liability of the author for the program
  46. not operating as desired or expected shall be limited to the registration 
  47. fee paid for use of the program.

  49. Distribution
  50. ============

  52. Anyone, registered or not, is encouraged to distribute GFile. However, 
  53. any distribution of GFile must conform to the following restrictions:
  54.  
  55.     1. All files (as listed below) that make up the GFile product must
  56.            be distributed as a single entity, and they may not be changed
  57.            or modified (archival/compression techniques excepted) from 
  58.        their original form. If installed on a computer system, all files
  59.        that make up the GFile product must be present and must be in the
  60.        same directory.
  61.     2. Any commercial distribution of GFile must explicitly state in
  62.        advertisements, catalogs, accompanying files, and any other 
  63.        promotional literature that buying the distribution does NOT 
  64.        confer the right to use GFile for other than the initial 30 day 
  65.        trial period, and that further use requires registration. Also, 
  66.        the distributor may not claim authorship or ownership of GFile.
  67.     3. Commercial distributors, and bulletin boards may bundle GFile
  68.        with other files containing promotional or instructional 
  69.        information so long as the restrictions of item 2 above are 
  70.        honored. However, GFile may not be bundled with other programs 
  71.        without the express written permission of the author.

  73. The following files make up GFile. If the distribution you received does not
  74. contain all of them, it is an invalid distribution.

  76.     gfile.exe    - The program file
  77.     gfiledll.dll    - A dynamic link library required to run gfile.exe
  78.     gfilecmd.pif    - A PIF used to implement the command line
  79.               operations. See the appropriate Help entry
  80.               (Launching Applications/Launching from the Command
  81.               Line) for details.
  82.     gfile.hlp    - GFile Help file
  83.     gfile.wri    - The program user documentation file. Consists of a
  84.                       modified version of the Help file
  85.     instalme.txt    - Instructions on how to install/remove GFile
  86.     readme.1st    - This file
  87.     technote.txt    - Revision history, corrections/warnings, any other
  88.               information concerning GFile that you should be
  89.               aware of but which doesn't 'fit' into any of the
  90.               other documentation files.

  93. Special Registration Note for Businesses/Organizations/Institutions
  94. ===================================================================

  96. Rather than register GFile for individuals, you may wish/need to register
  97. based on the number of users of GFile. To do so:
  98.  
  99.     Determine the number of people within your organization that
  100.     will be running GFile concurrently.
  101.                           ============
  102.  
  103.     Submit registration fees for the determined number of users.
  104.  
  105.     Note that registration is based on usage - not the number of copies 
  106.     of GFile. In particular, if 10 (for example) users share a single 
  107.     networked copy of GFile, the correct registration fee is 10 * $20 or
  108.     $200 - the same as if there were individual copies of GFile on each 
  109.     system. However, also note that if 5 of the individuals worked days 
  110.     and the other 5 nights, and there were never more than 5 instances 
  111.     of GFile running at once, the correct registration fee would be 
  112.     5 * $20 or $100.

  114.     Be sure to identify a single person, title, or office to which any
  115.     technical correspondence should be directed.

  118. Submitting bug reports/suggestions for improvement
  119. ==================================================
  120.  
  121. All users of GFile are encouraged to submit bug (program trouble) reports.
  122. Please provide as detailed a description of the error as possible. If the 
  123. error is consistently reproduceable, please describe the steps needed to
  124. reproduce the error. Include as detailed a description of the hardware and
  125. software that make up the system as possible, including a listing of system
  126. files (config.sys, autoexec.bat, win.ini, system.ini). Any information that
  127. will help me reproduce the problem will result in quicker correction.

  129. Suggestions for improving GFile are always welcome. However, the order in
  130. which they are implemented is:
  131.     1. Suggestions from Registered Users/Sites
  132.     2. Suggestions from Registered Users/Sites
  133.     3. Suggestions from Registered Users/Sites
  134.     4. Suggestions from beta testers
  135.     5. Chief programmer's (my) ideas
  136.     6. Suggestions from unregistered sources

  138. If you deduce from this that registering is a good way to influence the
  139. future direction of GFile - You're correct. If you suspect that the Chief
  140. Programmer always has more ideas than time to implement them, and that
  141. suggestions received only from unregistered sources are rarely implemented -
  142. You're correct again.
